Who We Are

  • Haydens Law was set up in February 2026 by Peter Hayden, who was previously with one of the large offshore firms where he transformed the litigation team, managed the Cayman office and served as a member of the global management board. He set up Haydens Law as a commercial litigation and insolvency boutique to meet client demand for a different approach to that offered by large firms.
  • Our approach is to aim to deliver the best possible outcome for our clients and we adjust our tactical approach accordingly. This may involve seeking an early settlement or it may require the robust prosecution or defence of a claim, with a view to settling in the future on better terms or having the issues resolved by the court.
  • We also seek to work very efficiently, work in dedicated small teams, outsource and use technology, including AI, where appropriate. We are flexible in our approach to costs and, in appropriate cases, are willing to work on a fixed fee, conditional or contingent basis, where that fits with our client’s objectives.

Our experience

  • Peter is one of the most experienced and successful litigators in the Cayman Islands. He has been involved in most of the major frauds to be litigated in Cayman, including Petters, Saad, Madoff, Highland Capital Management and 1MDB.
  • He has obtained judgments running into billions of dollars, including a US$2.5 billion judgment in the Saad case, the largest fraud ever to be litigated in Cayman and has an unrivalled record in cases which have progressed to the Privy Council, where he has been involved in setting important precedents on creditor rights, shareholder rights, reflective loss, contributory negligence, limitation and the principle of finality.
  • Peter has successfully settled many of his cases, both through direct negotiations and through mediations. He has been involved in more than 30 mediations, successfully settling the Madoff impacted Primeo fund's claims with the BLMIS Trustee which has resulted in recoveries of hundreds of millions of dollars. Peter has also settled a number of other claims for sums of US$100 million or more.
  • Peter has worked on many large scale insolvencies and led the Cayman restructurings of Bahraini investment bank Arcapita, the North American retailer Tailored Brands and the leading gold producer Endeavour Mining.
